KamarStudios

Kamarstudiosis a research and creation laboratory of contemporary music located in the Medina of Marrakech. It was co-founded in 1999 by Khalid Içame and Philippe Lauro-Baranès. Khalid Içame (b. 1979), aka Z-tröz, was born in Marrakech. He is self-taught and signed his first collaborative album khalaa in 2000. His invention of a new way to create music from extracts of voices follows years of experimentation and research drawing from Gnawa music archives. Abderrazzak Akhoullil (b. 1979), aka Dj Folani, was born in Marrakech. He is a descendent of the Gnawa people, and he too is self-taught. Abderrazzak joined Kamarstudios in 1999. Içame and Azkhoullil have collaborated on Marrakech UnderMoon, The Black Album (2007), comprising more than three hundred soundscapes and sound designs, and Peace is not what you believe (2012–2013), for the Sharjah Biennial 11.
